OPEN CHARTER - 13TH VENICE ARCHITECTURE BIENNALE - BRITISH PAVILION

Public works in collaboration with Urban Projects Bureau and Owen Pritchard are one of the ten UK practices in the British Pavilion.

OPEN CHARTER

is a proposal for a new platform for discussion and engagement for the architecture profession and those involved with it to clarify, critique and act upon critical issues determining the role of the architect and their identity - a catalyst for positive change.

The project was conceived within the widespread expression of confusion and fear in the UK surrounding the future of architecture as a profession, and a desire to reaffirm the qualities that are so vital to the continued progress of society and the architect as a valuable agent in the world.

We gathered responses from people around the world about what they feel an architect is and does, and how they feel they can contribute to society. This multitude of voices has been collected when searching for the image of the architect around the world. They reveal a personal perspective about the architect, of the professional and its role in society.
